Teacher's Pet

Image sourced from [www.tpet.couk]

Hi Guys,

I would just like to share this fantastic site I have found for teaching resources. It has fantastic downloadable resources, activities, displays and interactive apps available.

They have 2 websites, one which has thousands of  FREE display resources which is updated every day. www.displays.tpet.co.uk These are well worth a look and the team are open to suggestions via their Facebook page (see below). And an additional one which hosts many activities and games, for the nominal fee of £12 per year. www.activities.tpet.co.uk

Take a look and see what you think,

Using Visualizers in the Primary Classroom

Visualizers are a great tool to have in your classroom and their uses are endless! You can use them to display text in a book which is then projected onto the SMART board, they are fantastic for reviewing children's work and assessing it as a class and can be used within Science to zoom into objects or project an experiment you are conducting. These are but a few suggestions, many teachers have them in their rooms, they're just not sure what to do with them. I challenge you to have a play and see just how useful they can be!

Using Nintendo DS within Class

Image Sourced from [www.google.co.uk/images]
A great idea came to my attention today, the use of Nintendo DS' within the classroom! By using the basic Pictochat function children can sign into a local chat room (classroom only chat room) and vote, message and draw to the teacher and each other. It is part of the initiative of getting boys to write and is working successfully in our school. The children are learning without realising it which is a great bonus when challenged with children who have distinct barriers to learning.

Give it a go and let me know how you do!

Learning walls

Here is a fantastic idea of mapping out numeracy and literacy for the week.

What are working walls? Working walls are displays for numeracy and literacy which support children's learning. Working walls make use of visible display outcomes, modelled examples and success criteria. This approach enables the children to know what they are learning and the process they are undertaking over a period of time (more often than not over the week).

Below are examples of working walls from various primary schools around the country. Please take time to have a look and see what is being done by other teachers.

Michael Gove - Longer school days and Shorter Holidays

Michael Gove Sourced www.bbc.co.uk

So Michael Gove has decided that teachers do not work enough and that we should work longer hours and have shorter holidays. As if we didn't work hard enough already?! Below is an article from the Independent on this topic, please comment your thoughts below.

Music Feely Box

A new addition to my music resources- a music feely box (apologies for rough state!). Used for the first time today and had great results!

Today's session was interesting sounds with year 2. We listened to an assortment of sounds and sorted flash cards in order of appearance within the sound selection. Next the children created their own sound cards and put then in the feely box. In turn the children selected a card from the box and introduced the sound to the whole class.

Next week the box will be used to identify common household items such as cutlery and yoghurt pots by listening to the sound in the box and identifying it.

I urge you to create your own as feely boxes or bags can be used in every subject in a variety of different ways.

Happy exploring!

Miss B.
